Welcome our new COO Anna Luscombe!
We are excited to announce that Anna Luscombe has joined Maptycs as Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Anna had previously been with Mastercard as Vice President of Partnerships and New Products, Global Acceptance, where she oversaw Product Strategy, Partnerships and Corporate Development. In this role, she developed Mastercard’s new POS credit strategy and made several strategic investments, including the acquisition of Vyze.
Anna holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, and a BA from the University of Oxford. Prior to Mastercard, Anna led teams at Klarna and Paypal in various roles ranging from business development, product strategy, and marketing.
As COO, Anna will be responsible for driving operational excellence and developing partnerships as Maptycs continues to grow to meet the needs of insurance and risk management professionals.
“Anna brings with her a deep experience and understanding of building, shaping, and scaling new businesses,” said Jacqueline LeGrand, CEO of Maptycs. “With her as COO, Maptycs is well prepared to continue our growth and expand our impact. She’s the perfect person for Maptycs, and we’re delighted for her to be part of the team.”
1. What are you most excited about at Maptycs?
Anna: We have the right team, the right product, and the timing is really apropos. Given the increase in catastrophic weather events, and the growing complexity of the risk manager role, Maptycs has a great opportunity to solve many of the large problems that companies struggle with when it comes to mitigating losses, ensuring business continuity and proactively managing their insurance programs.
Risk management is only going to grow in complexity, and I really feel like Maptycs is “right place, right time” to address the serious issue of making sense of all the data being collected by insurers and risk managers. I’m most excited about taking my experience from Paypal and Mastercard and translating it to Maptycs to tackle a space which has historically lacked good tools and where we can bring big data and BI capabilities to bear, along with a really experienced team.
2. Why did you decide to join Maptycs?
Anna: I’ve always loved the challenge of building something from the ground up. Both of my parents are entrepreneurs, so I’ve been surrounded by that spirit of entrepreneurship my entire life.
With Maptycs, I was introduced to Jacqueline (CEO) through the French founders’ network here in New York, and she is truly an insurance expert. Talking with her and the team, I felt that my experience – with the exposure to the tech and start-up world – as well as my business and strategy skills could really complement the team, so it felt like the right marriage of our respective capabilities. Maptycs is solving a big problem, and the combination of a great team with great tech really made me feel that this was the right time to get involved.
3. What are you most focused on right now?
Anna: I want to really understand our customers. Maptycs can be immensely useful for such a wide variety of industries, but therein lies the blessing and curse. So many risk managers and underwriters struggle with visualizing and analyzing large data sets, but which segments are feeling this pain most keenly? How can we best serve, and connect with, those who need us most?
For risk managers, our sweet spot is amongst companies with at least 50 properties and who possess a risk management mindset. On the underwriting side, we see application across both large and smaller insurers, reinsurers, captives and MGAs. Maptycs’ risk analytics platform supports risk professionals for better risk assessment and technical underwriting, improves their loss ratios through real time weather event tracking and powerful analysis on their underlying portfolios and optimize insurance and loss control costs.
Maptycs is in the early stage, so it’s about keying in on focus and not spreading ourselves too thin. There’s such a significant need for Maptycs, so I’m really excited to execute to fulfill that need.
4. When you’re not in the office, what are you doing?
Anna: Depends on the time of day, but on the weekend, you can probably catch me running over Williamsburg Bridge or playing soccer in Fort Greene Park with Molly, my mini-Australian Shepherd!
5. Anything else you’d like to share?
Anna: I’m incredibly thrilled to be leading the Maptycs team with Jackie.
Right now, we’re putting in the beams and pillars – the foundation – to build an exceptional, scalable business. There are still many unknowns, but I’m really looking forward to establishing Maptycs as a meaningful and well-known brand throughout the risk management and insurance space.
Use Maptycs! 🙂
